JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:  Director

RESPONSIBILITIES:

To be responsible for overall facilities operation and business management of the Center; coordinate and promote on-going activities of the Center supporting the mission statement emphasizing education and industry related events as directed by the Board.  The position requires leadership for implementing the vision of the Center.  The person in this position is expected to be the spokesperson and favorably represent the image of the Center through media and relationship development, as well as strive to increase the attendance to the Center through programming.  A basic understanding of Jack O’Connor and his role in the outdoor industry, wildlife management and modern day conservation is a plus, but not required.

TASKS:

Supervise day-to-day operations of the Center

  • Provide leadership in the growth of the Center
  • Ensure that established hours are maintained
  • Recruit, interview, train, schedule, supervise, and recognize volunteers
  • Engage volunteers in Center activities and tasks as part of workload planning
  • Supervise accounting of sales, attendance, donations and volunteer hours
  • Maintain appearance of the Center
  • Respond to inquiries by mail, phone and email
  • Ensure that all equipment is in working order
  • Ensure the maintenance of facility security

Establish educational programs

  • Coordinate education programs
  • Develop and promote programs with local grammar, middle and high school teachers and students
  • Develop and promote programs with area colleges and universities and utilize their resources
  • Coordinate with Fish and Game
  • Provide support for the Youth Hunter Education Challenge program (YHEC)

Marketing

  • Implement opportunities to promote the Center within the LC Valley, and at northwest regional and national levels to increase visibility and attendance
  • Provide updated information for website posting
  • Keep media apprised of Center activities         

Coordinate Fundraising

  • Develop data base of supporters for donations and long-term commitments to maintain Center
  • Identify grant resources to fund Center projects and programs
  • Identify and foster private donor sources and commitments to complement and enhance Board efforts    

Membership Program

  • Manage Membership program scheduling renewal notices for current members and well as mailings to recruit new members to keep the program growing
  • Prepare a quarterly Newsletter for the benefit of members

Exhibits

  • Maintain and care for exhibits within established museum standards
  • Keep current inventory of collections – mounts, manuscripts and books
  • Keep information current
  • Prepare loan and acquisition forms for Board approval as needed
  • Schedule regular examination of mounts by taxidermist to prevent insect damage

Promote and coordinate meeting room reservations

  • Maintain calendar of events
  • Invoice and record payments for rentals
  • Monitor and care for AV equipment

Library

  • Maintain current inventory of all books, periodicals and publications
  • Assess book donations and determine if they are held for collections or to be sold

Liaison between Board of Directors and Hells Gate State Park

  • Report to board in monthly meetings
  • Maintain open communications with Park Director
  • Keep Park staff informed of Center activities, programs and hours
  • Look for collaborative opportunities with Park

REPORTING:

Director reports directly to the Board Chairman and Executive Committee.
